Fall asleep in two minutes myth put to the test

There are countless techniques around that can apparently help you fall asleep faster, but one claims to do it in two minutes or less.
Today medical expert, Dr Nick Coatsworth put the military sleep method to the test, to see if there was any support to it.
In order for the military method to work, you need to relax your face, drop your shoulders, breathe out, clear your mind, then repeat the words "don't think" again and again in your head.

But Dr Coatsworth pointed out a big issue with that key final detail.
"That's the problem isn't it - if you say 'don't think', you are going to think," Dr Coatsworth said.
"It can work, but it is about the ritualisation of sleep - if you have good sleep rituals you'll have a good night's sleep which prepares you for the next day."

Dr Coatsworth suggested coming up with your own phrase if "don't think" is a little too on the nose once you're already in bed and doing things like avoiding screens in the lead up to going to bed.
