Mates sail dunny-dinghy to Kangaroo Island

Two South Australian boaties have strapped a toilet to a barge, taking their so-called dunny dinghy on a big adventure in shark-infested waters.

Alex “Thunderbox” Craig is building a house on Kangaroo Island, but didn’t want to flush thousands down the toilet getting the outhouse delivered from the mainland.

So he recruited his mate, Paul Graham, and the pair attached the dunny to a barge, along with a Weber BBQ to cook some snags along the way, transporting it themselves, through the treacherous 14 kilometre stretch of water known as the Backstairs Passage.

The effort was a success and the duo managed to reach their destination in four hours, with the dunny dinghy still in one piece.

“We weren’t scared of the sharks, it was more I was scared that Alex had to go to the toilet on the way over, to be honest with you,” Paul told Today.

Paul confirmed it was a functioning toilet and the BBQ was also working fine the entire voyage.

“We had to pull it apart when it came off, it was on there pretty sturdy... that thing had to be locked down, we didn’t want sausages flying everywhere,” he said.

Alex and Paul have posted their dunny dinghy adventures on social media and teased Sylvia and Mike there could be more antics in the future.

“There is another crossing that we have done, it’s quite funny as well, but yeah, there’s plenty more mate,” he said.
