Marathon man, 70, showing no sign of slowing down

A veteran marathon man is showing no sign of slowing down as he prepares to run his 43rd Melbourne Marathon this weekend.

John 'Dobbo' Dobson has been participating in the run since 1978 and said he feels a sense of freedom and camaraderie with fellow runners when he is out on the course.

"You urge them on and they'll urge you on and we're all in it together," Dobbo told Today.

Dobbo said he still enjoys training after all these years and it feels like you're in your own little world - something no one can take away from you.

This year, Dobbo is running for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, hoping to raise crucial funds for the organisation to help young children with the condition.

"I've been out to the centre a few times to see the kids in there and they work miracles there, the people are fantastic and the volunteers they've got there, it's unbelievable," he said.

While Dobbo has raised $100 so far for the foundation, his target is $700.
