Gold Logie winner Sam Pang reacts to Magda Szubanski’s surprise appearance

Winning a Gold Logie is an honour in itself, but being presented a Logie by Aussie icon Magda Szubanski became a career defining moment for comedian Sam Pang.
The TV host, 52, won the coveted award last night during the biggest night in Aussie television and, like us, had “no idea” Szubanski would be making a legendary appearance.

“It was an amazing moment anyway,” he said about winning the award as Pang joined Today for his first live TV interview post-win.
“And to have Magda / Sharon stand next to you and hand it to you ... especially Magda recovering and getting over her illness, it was special to be there sharing the stage with Australian comedy royalty,” he shared.
The crowd erupted as surprise special guest Szubanski shuffled on stage in full character as Sharon Strzelecki from Kath and Kim.
Szubanski, who recently went into remission from cancer, delivered a heart-warming skit before awarding Pang with the coveted gong.
Pang, who was running on two-hours sleep, admitted it was a “weird night” not knowing whether you’d get up to deliver an acceptance speech or stay sitting.
But when the moment came, Pang said: “It’s a wonderful industry, a wonderful world full of talented people... I am very, very lucky and very grateful to be part of it.”
Pang also praised Robert Irwin for the “wonderful” job he did as host.
We must say, seeing Szubanski take to the stage was the highlight of our evening. Seven
The comedian joked, if he had hosted for the fourth time, he “probably was going to do something very similar” with the performances and reptiles.
“So it probably worked out for the best,” he smiled.
We’d love to hear from you
