A domesticated chicken has been given the coveted title of 'Australia's Friendliest Pet'.

Lemon Chicken is a yellow therapy chook who spends her days roaming the garden, enjoying manicures and even has her very own billboard in Sydney's Lower North Shore after winning the Swaggle competition.

But when her owner, Chrissy Stanley, brought Lemon Chicken into the Today Studios to meet the hosts, one was not impressed by her presence.

Karl Stefanovic was traumatised by a chicken when he was a young boy and was anxious to be so close to one while at work.

"They're horrible creatures! I don't like them - I had therapy for years," he revealed.

But co-host Sarah Abo's attempt to help Karl work through his trauma may have done more harm than good - to both him and Lemon Chicken.

Sarah and Chrissy managed to convince Karl to hold Lemon Chicken on live TV, but like a shark, she must have smelled his fear.

Moments after Karl had her in his grips, Lemon Chicken started flapping her wings and clawing her way out of Karl's grip.

"Oh my god! You dropped my baby!" Chrissy yelled as Karl flung Lemon Chicken to the ground.

"Don't worry, she doesn't like you either."

But even with Karl joking about all the chicken meals he likes, "chicken wings, chicken parmigiana, chicken curry", Chrissy still let Lemon Chicken have another go at relieving Karl of his phobia.

"Don't move, don't breathe Karl, don't do anything - oh my god," Sarah said as Chrissy gently placed Lemon Chicken on his shoulder.
