Karl Stefanovic completes muddy slip and slide into cow dung

Mogo Public School has been through a lot, and this is something they never asked for.

The historic 149-year-old school survived fierce New Year's fires, had a community garden rebuilt, only to have Today host Karl Stefanovic complete a slide and slide in their muddy grounds.

And as he stood at the bottom of the steep hill, he had some regrets.

"I just wanted to say that when I said I'd do a little slip and slide, I didn't expect the slide of death," he said.

"The great landscapers who have done all of the gardening at the school have prepared all of this local dung, they say it is the finest possible dung from the local cows. Thank you to the landscapers. We are going to give it a go."

But like the team player he is, he ran up the hill as locals chanted "Karlos, Karlos, Karlos."

Fireman hosed down the slide and without too much hesitation, and a brief mishap when he didn't actually slide, Stefanovic launched himself down the slide into the muddy dung below.

Ally Langdon watched on and said: "We will play that over and over and over again."
