JoJo Siwa has been a regular on our screens since her breakout role on the controversial Dance Moms, in 2013.

Even at age nine, JoJo's talent was obvious and in the years since stepping away from reality TV, her fanbase has grown exponentially, amassing a whopping 45.7 million followers on TikTok.

The young singer is now one of the most famous faces on social media and while many argue Dance Moms was exploitative of the young girls who appeared on the series, JoJo said she is grateful for where it has taken her.

"I think it's really cool, the position in life I'm in, I am able to go and do whatever I want creatively," she said.

"I'm able to create whatever career I want, go in any direction I want and try things, decide I don't like them and try something else - it's a really cool life and I always say 'thank you' 11-year-old me, that girl set all this up."

Known in her early career for the big bright hair bows and colourful clothes she wore, JoJo did a complete overhaul on her personal brand last year.

But while the makeover rattled the haters, it got the internet buzzing and as long as she can bring joy into people's lives, JoJo said she will keep creating content online however she chooses.

"It's definitely not easy, my thing is I always just want to create a fun, safe, entertaining environment," she said.

"I've been put on this earth to entertain, to make people smile, to make people feel better, whether that's at a two-hour concert or watching a 32-second TikTok, if I can get a laugh, a smile, a little jolt of endorphins out of somebody, that's always my goal with entertaining."

JoJo went viral last year for the dance moves in her recent song, Karma, so she taught the Today hosts how to perform it.
