'I'm very grateful': John Cena reflects on his success in Hollywood and WWE

John Cena is one of the most recognisable faces in Hollywood right now, having starred in some of the biggest film projects in recent years.

From roles in the Fast and the Furious, Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universes, to his own Suicide Squad spinoff streaming series, Peacemaker and a cameo in last year's biggest film, Barbie.

But as bright as the 47-year-old's star continues to shine, he remains humble about how fleeting that success can be.

"I started in this racket in 2002, so you know, there's ups and downs and some days it's fast-paced and then some days you're just waiting around for the next chance, but I'm very grateful for the opportunities I have," he told Today in an exclusive interview.

Season two of Peacemaker is on the way and Cena featured in this year's season premiere of The Simpsons.

His appearance at the Oscars went viral after he appeared nude on stage to present the award for Best Costume Design and he has also announced a return to his WWE origins with a farewell tour kicking off next year.

"It's something that's certainly never been done on the WWE level and wrestling retirements sometimes fans are sceptical, but I am dead serious, I will be done December 2025," he said.

"We're going to start in January and hopefully there's an Australia date in there, I'd love to come down and see our fan base there."

Cena has re-entered the WWE ring sporadically over the years he has been acting and he said the farewell tour is a way to say thank you to the wrestling fans who got him to where he is today.

"The business has been great to me over the years and we want to do something exclusive for our fans and take it around the world to say thank you for allowing me to have all the jackpots that I've had in my life," he said.

And speaking of Jackpots, Cena will next appear alongside Awkwafina in the Prime Video action comedy, Jackpot, premiering this Thursday.
