Kyle 'crushed' at co-host's decision to step down from radio role

KIIS FM radio star Kyle Sandilands said he is devastated at his co-host's decision to step down from her role due to health reasons.

Jackie O announced live on air this morning that she was struggling to recover from a recent COVID-19 diagnosis so she would temporarily be taking time off from her co-hosting duties.

"I was crushed because earlier in the week Jackie said to me 'I can't shake this flu' and she's been coughing like a sailor's wife," Kyle revealed to Today.

"The poor thing has been struggling and couldn't get the chest infection away, god bless her.

"She said 'I just feel like I'm letting everyone down' and I said 'the only person you're letting down is yourself if you don't take care of yourself first.'"

Jackie said since she picked the virus up a couple of weeks ago and she had been to the doctor several times and he told her she was pushing too hard and that was stopping her from getting better.

While Kyle and Jackie O have both confirmed her break from hosting is only temporary, he could not say when she will return.

"We've only got three weeks of the year left, so I am expecting - how long does it take to get over a cough?" he said.

Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Ally Langdon told Kyle they love Jackie O and hope she is okay and Kyle assured them "she's not dying, it's just a cough".

Karl had sympathy for Jackie, but also for Kyle over being paid out that both men take too much time off work.

"Mate, to be fair to Jackie O too, Ally passed on this horrible cough that I had for months," Karl told his guest.

"You and I are supposed to be the ones who are never there and always sick and it's our co-hosts who have gone down."
