Pest controller finds 'terrifying' sight inside Aussie bathroom

A Melbourne pest controller said European wasps ate through the plaster on a bathroom wall to build what could be a record-breaking nest.

Dale Armel of DAP Pest Control was called in to help after the deadly insects were discovered living in the unoccupied property.

He told Today "it was terrifying" to see in person and it took him two days to "minimise" or exterminate the massive colony.

"I went in there and my first real reaction to that wasp nest, it was terrifying and massive - It was incredible," he said.

"I did not want to work in pest control that day."

Dale said the wasps made their way into the home during the pandemic and must have had plenty of time to keep building it bigger and bigger over the two years.

"I had to approach it within two days, two treatments," he said.

"The nest was made out of wood, fibre and saliva, so they ate the plaster in the wall to build and construct the nest and got other wood fibres from outside."
