Fruit prices expected to soar ahead of Lunar New Year
Grocers are warning customers high demand for certain products will drive costs up ahead of Lunar New Year.
Skippy's Fresh Frootz manager, Elijah Etri, told Today cherries and lychees are the main produce which will be impacted, with cherries already on their way out of season.
"Cherries are going out of season in January and lychees are not far behind in March, so with demand driving extra quantity needed, then the market dries up stock and prices increase," he said.

Elijah said even if Aussies shop around, they will still find similar prices across the board, even with overseas exports increasing to fill the gap.
Both cherries and lychees are currently selling for between $18-$35 per kilo, depending on where you shop.
"It does affect retailers and it does affect shoppers as well, because if they're not celebrating the new year and they do want some cherries and lychees before they go out of season, they are going to have to pay a premium price for them," he said.
