Skipper still in shock after dolphin crash lands on boat

A Queensland skipper is still trying to wrap his head around how a huge dolphin managed to jump out of the water and into his charter boat during a fishing excursion.

Bodi Sawyer told Today he and his crew were actually catching quite a few fish just off Moreton Bay when their unexpected guest dropped in for a visit.

"I've been fishing for over 30 years and that's the first time I've ever heard of that happening," he said.

"It's pretty crazy how high these things can jump, he's completely cleared the two young fellas fishing at the front of the boat and unfortunately smacked into the console and ended up in the back of the boat."

Dolphins can typically weigh more than 130 kilograms around Australia and because of their size and shape, it was too tricky for Bodi and his crew to remove it themselves.

Thankfully, he was able to contact a nearby animal rescue team, who jetted out and were able to free the dolphin back into the water.
