Peak of COVID-19 wave 'weeks away'

The peak of Australia's current COVID-19 wave is still a few weeks away, the Queensland chair of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners has said.

"I think we're in danger of some COVID-19 complacency here," Dr Bruce Willett told Today.

"(There's) high numbers, and increasing steeply."

He said the current wave has demonstrated the importance of investing in general practice.

"We've got a perfect storm really of COVID-19 and the flu hitting at once," he said.

"It's really stressing the whole health system, right across the board."
