Father appalled daughter's killer could be released within months
The father of a young woman killed in Melbourne parklands said it is "alarming" the man responsible could be released within a matter of months.
Courtney Herron was walking through Royal Park in the early hours when she was set upon and beaten with a tree branch by homeless man, Henry Hammond, in May 2019.
Hammond was found not guilty of murder due to mental impairment and ordered to spend 25 years in a secure psychiatric facility.

Courtney's father is a criminal lawyer and blamed the Victorian government's "restorative justice" program for Hammond's early supervised release.
"What that means is they are processing these killers out onto the street as quickly as possible," John Herron said.
"There is limited treatment, if anything at all."

Herron claimed the public and police aren't being informed when convicted killers are released into society.
"This is not uncommon. If anything ever happened, who would know?
"It is incomprehensible this is allowed.
"This is not treatment for these people - it is just a fast-track to get them out on the streets."
