In 2018, Briony Benjamin was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkins lymphoma.

Doctors told the then 31-year-old the life-saving treatment she needed would severely reduce her chances of ever having a child.

Briony told Today Extra on top of already facing a cancer diagnosis, it was "incredibly confronting" to find out the one thing that could save her meant she may never be able to fall pregnant.

So Briony froze her eggs before starting chemotherapy.

Just recently, she and her partner decided to start trying for a child, knowing they faced a tough battle ahead after the treatment she went through five years ago.

But one morning while eating breakfast, Briony felt unwell and discovered she was in fact, already pregnant - having conceived naturally.

"We were sitting having breakfast one morning and the sight of the eggs on my plate made me feel the need to gag," she said.

"We thought something is up, so we did a pregnancy test and I was ecstatic to find out we had fallen pregnant naturally."

Briony is now six and a half months and something she stuck to avidly could have had something to do with how her body managed to fall pregnant without the help of IVF.

"I became really obsessed with journalling throughout my treatment, it's been shown to boost the immune system and studies have shown it can help wounds heal faster," she said.

She said she knows people can find journalling daunting and simply being told "just be positive" isn't always a help.

This is why she has released a book about her cancer journey and how journalling can help.
