Tourist's creepy encounter reignites TikTok rumours of NSW serial killer

Byron Bay is typically known for it's pristine beaches and laid back atmosphere, with tourists from all over the world flocking to the location all year round for fun in the sun.

But the idyllic haven on the NSW Far North Coast is earning a far more sinister reputation, thanks to widespread speculation on social media about a serial killer, or killers, being behind dozens of disappearances and cold case murders along the coast over the past five decades.

Police have confirmed they don't believe there is a common offender behind these cases, however people online continue to reignite rumours there is something to be afraid of for anyone who dares to go travelling in the region.

Tourist and influencer, Bodhi Jako, took to TikTok recently to share a chilling encounter he had in Byron Bay six months ago which he claims could be linked to some of the unsolved incidents in the area over the years.

"It was very sketchy, very weird, I was staying at a house where one of my friends was renting, it was rented by two girls, and I was sleeping on the floor near a window," he told Today.

"And at about two or three in the morning, I don't really know why I woke up, maybe a sound and there was a man poking his head through the window - as soon as he saw I was awake, he shot his head back through and I never saw him again."

This encounter comes after the women renting the property told Bodhi they'd been hearing strange noises outside their windows and creepy notes and flowers had been left on their front doorstep.

The encounters became so concerning, the women eventually packed up and left Byron Bay altogether.

"I can't say for sure that it was a serial killer and I didn't make that claim, I just drew connections because a lot of sketchy things had been happening to these two girls," he said.

"They had a man outside of their window and then I think it was just lucky I was there, he very well could have just been anybody stalking them, wanting to do something malicious.

"But we also don't know the stories of the people who have gone missing, heartbreakingly and there's every chance that their story started with something similar."

In a statement provided to Today, NSW Police confirmed to this date, there is no evidence to indicate a common offender was responsible for disappearances and all unsolved cases will be reviewed every two years.
