New data has revealed Australia's friendliest and least friendly suburbs.

Comedian, Rowan Thambar, created the Rate Thy Neighbour app, a national social experiement where Aussies could anonymously give their neighbour a score from one to five on how nice they were.

"The goal of this was really to try and find the friendliest neighbourhood," Rowan told Today.

"It all started when my wife and I were playing catch in our local park and I saw my neighbour do something a little crazy."

Rowan revealed the neighbour actually picked up some dog poo that was left on her lawn and threw it at the person she believes failed to pick up after their dog.

"So I thought it would be great if we had a way we could police that," he said.

And Rowan's survey has revealed some interesting results on where Australia's friendliest and most unfriendly neighbourhoods are.

Alberton in Victoria, Ascot Park in South Australia, Belconnen in the ACT, Arana Hills in Queensland and Aberglasslyn in NSW were among the country's friendliest suburbs.
