Tony Abbott on the firefront with the volunteer army
Tony Abbott, former Prime Minister and volunteer fire fighter, just wants do his bit for Australia as bushfires continue to burn around the state.
Mr Abbott has served the NSW Rural Fire Service for nearly 15 years and as he arrived at the staging centre in Nowra on NSW's south coast, he greeted Army reservists who were committed to the fight on Saturday by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

"ScoMo's troops have arrived. Well done, good on, ya, fellas," he said.

"Look, [I'm] just along with 70,000 other volunteers," he told Today reporter Gabby Boyle.

Boyle said one of the things that struck her about the former PM is that he was not looking for any attention.
"I don't think he was overly keen to see our camera waiting to capture him there. He tried to sneak in," she said.
Mr Abbott has been volunteering on the front lines helping to fight fires alongside the NSW RFS, and it is clear the help of the ADF is welcomed.

Up to 3000 Army reservists were deployed over the weekend to help with clean-up from the fires. Among their duties, they will help bury more than 100,000 sheep and cattle killed in the bushfires.
Reservist Crowley-Bacon told Today he's happy to join in the battle.
"We had the fires come through on New Year's Eve and our farm fared better than most. It's good to give back to others who weren't as fortunate."
