Australia's youngest-ever Olympic gold medallist finally gets her duck

She is Australia's youngest-ever Olympic gold medallist, but when skateboarder Arisa Trew was competing in Paris, she was vying for more than just sporting glory.

Because the Gold Coast teen had been bugging her mum and dad for a pet duck all year, so when they agreed she could have one if she took home gold at Paris 2024, that was enough motivation for Arisa to make history.

But showing maturity well beyond her 14 years, Arisa held off getting her new duck once she arrived back home, waiting to finish the remaining competitions she had on her calendar for the year.

"I would have been travelling so I wouldn't be able to spend a lot of time with the duck when it was a baby, so I decided to wait it off," Arisa told Today.

"Now I'm finally home from another long trip of skating and comps, so I'm going to be in Australia for a little longer than usual and now I get it the duck."

And Arisa was beaming when she introduced little Goldie to the Today team.

"I'm super happy," she smiled.

"We don't really know the gender yet, but Goldie is almost two-weeks-old."

Arisa has taken Goldie to her skating academy to show her friends, but she said she will wait until it's a little bit older before she takes it to the skate park or beach.

In the meantime, off the back of an impressive 14 out of 16 wins overall this year, Arisa said she's looking forward to just chilling out over the Christmas holidays.

"Christmas is most likely going to be in Australia, I'm pretty sure, so I'm excited to be here for that," she said.
