Rumours have been swirling in recent weeks over who would replace Alex Cullen on the Today desk.

While a string of talented journalists have been filling in over recent weeks, following Cullen and Nine's mutual decision to part ways, his successor has finally been confirmed.

Danika Mason has been living and breathing everything sports since she was a young girl, joining the Nine family in 2012 as an intern.

She told Karl Stefanovic she was excited about what adventures her new role as the Today sport presenter would take her on.

"I'm actually so thankful, it's so wonderful to be a part of the family," Danika said.

"It's so exciting that you're all welcoming me into your home each morning.

"It's actually a bit of a full circle moment because, 10 years ago, I was producing sport on the Today show."

Over the past 13 years, Danika has worked across both news and Wide World of Sports stories, producing segments behind the scenes as well as presenting the Sunday Footy Show and interviewing the biggest sporting legends from here and abroad.

And as if the 3.30am alarm and responsibilities of Today aren't going to keep Danika busy enough, she will also continue work with WWOS, reporting on Sunday afternoon footy and Thursday nights on the sideline.
