Tit for tat over Shorten's 'man boobs'

Bill Shorten has a message for anyone worried about his so-called man boobs.

He doesn't care.

Especially if the advice is coming from a former Labor leader-turned-media-commentator named Mark Latham.

Mr Latham has chided Mr Shorten over his new-found fitness regime, especially the "ample fleshy bits" on display as he hit the pavements of Queensland.

"Now, in this more enlightened era, Shorten has a chance to win some key marginal seats with a man boobs-led recovery," the one-time opposition leader wrote in News Corp papers on Friday.

It's not the first time someone has pulled up Mr Shorten's apparent fashion fail.

Treasurer Scott Morrison last month tacked on a political critique with a jibe about his "ill-fitting suit".

In any case Mr Shorten isn't interested in any man-boob-led campaign strategy.

"I think I'd put Mark Latham's fashion advice in the same box I put Scott Morrison's," he told reporters in Sydney.

"Seriously, though, what I'm focused on is the issues."

For his part, Mr Morrison laughed off the tit-for-tat (no pun intended) and has taken it all in chest. Sorry, jest.

"I don't think he's that precious," the treasurer told ABC radio on Friday after being asked about Mr Shorten's suit.

"He hit me back with one of his zingers so good for him."
