Time to talk about organs: NSW govt

NSW residents are being urged to discuss organ donation after a slight dip in the number of donors.

Last year 92 people gave their organs to those in need, down from a record high 102 in 2013.

NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner wants families throughout the state to talk about donation in a bid to increase transplantation rates.

"Too often, grieving families are faced with uncertainty around whether or not to donate their loved ones organs at an already very difficult time," she said.

The Organ and Tissue Authority 2014 Performance Report, released on Tuesday, showed 263 organs were harvested from 92 donors.

"I urge all people in NSW to have the difficult conversation which has the potential to save many lives," Ms Skinner said.
