Thug who threw mum to ground could be free in seven months

Luke Robinson was in the middle of an ice binge when armed with a jemmy bar he robbed a mother-of-three.

Wearing a motorbike helmet Robinson pushed the Afghani woman to the ground, her head hitting the concrete in the struggle outside a Corio shopping centre in March last year.

The thug ran away later spending more than $400 of the victim’s money on cannabis and other purchases at Coles, Kmart and Hungry Jacks in Belmont.

Police caught up with the Geelong crook three days later, he made admissions to the armed robbery stating he hadn’t slept in two weeks and was planning on stealing coins from a laundromat when he pounced on the woman.

The court heard the 33-year-old victim has been living in fear since the brazen attack.

"You attacked a vulnerable female while she was present at a busy shopping centre. She was entitled to be able to feel safe," sentencing judge Irene Lawson said.

Robinson has an extensive criminal history.

In 2016 he was jailed for offences including assault, making threats to kill, false imprisonment and animal cruelty.

He was serving a community order when he committed this armed robbery.

"In the past, I note that the courts have afforded you a degree of leniency," the judge remarked.

In sentencing Judge Lawson took into consideration Robinson’s traumatic upbringing, he was severely neglected as a child and only completed a grade five level of schooling.

The court heard Robinson began using drugs at age 10.

Luke Robinson was sentenced to three years jail to serve a minimum of 18 months behind bars, however with time already served he could walk free in 7 months.
