Three youths found hiding under bridge after ramming police car

Three young men have been arrested after ramming a police car in the Victorian city of Geelong this morning.

Patrolling police first spotted the men, aged 17, 18 and 20 years old, tampering with the wheels of a car at North Geelong train station about 5am.

Officers had pulled over to speak with the men, when the trio reversed a white Holden Commodore car and rammed into the police car.

A short pursuit was initiated, but was quickly terminated by a senior police officers and the Holden took off.

Only 15 minutes later, police received a tip-off that the car had T-boned a garbage truck on Elizabeth Street in Geelong West.

The men fled the crash scene on foot, and were later found hiding under a bridge where they were arrested.

Inspector Gary Bruce said the witness who called police after hearing reports of the incident on the radio was “instrumental” in catching the offenders.

“They put two and two together and called us,” he said.

The men are now being questioned over the incident, along with a string of burglaries in the local area overnight.
