Three dead, one trapped in Hunter crash

Three people have been killed and a fourth remains trapped in a vehicle following a crash in the Hunter region of NSW.

Two rescue helicopters are responding to the crash on the Golden Highway at Jerrys Plains after emergency services were alerted about 2.15pm today.

Ambulance NSW said paramedics are treating a woman for multiple injuries while three other people were dead when they arrived.

The wet weather has made the scene difficult for emergency workers, with one ambulance crashing on its way to the scene. No paramedics were injured and were ferried to the scene by a police car.

The Golden Highway remains closed in both directions and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
