Three charged after brawling with police on Australia Day

Two men and a woman have been charged with affray after clashing with police in Sydney's west last night.

Police were forced to use capsicum spray on an unruly crowd after being called to a Schofields property about 7.30pm due to reports of a stabbing.

Police found Jarrod Barr, 24, with a stab wound to his back. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition but is refusing to tell police who stabbed him.

"When paramedics and the medical crew arrived they discovered a man had a single stab wound to his lower back," NSW Ambulance chief inspector Bryan Parsell said.

Local residents told 9NEWS they saw five to 10 males throwing punches on Riverstone Road.

One female police officer was wounded in the fracas.

Mr Barr and a 22-year-old man were bailed to face Blacktown Local Court on February 5.

A 19-year-old woman will face the same court on February 19.
