Three men will arrive home in Australia today after pleading guilty to gang raping a backpacker in Croatia and paying $30,000 in compensation to the woman's family.

The men, who have not been named, had been in custody since July last year after attacking the Norwegian woman in a nightclub toilet in the coastal town of Split.

The woman said she was dragged into a cubicle before she broke free of the men and fled.

The three men told police the sexual activity they engaged in with the woman was voluntary.

Under a plea deal, the men received a one-year suspended jail sentence and each paid the woman's family $10,200.

The men left Croatia yesterday immediately after being released and are expected to arrive in Australia today.

The good behaviour bond given to each of the men is enforceable across Europe but will not apply in Australia.

They faced 15 years in jail before the deal was finalised.
