Thousands expected to attend Chan and Sukumaran's Sydney funerals

Thousands are expected to attend the public funerals of executed Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

Chan, 31, will be farewelled late Friday morning at the Hillsong Church in Baulkham Hills, in the city’s west. The church can hold up to 4000 people and is expected to draw a huge crowd of mourners.

Chan and Sukumaran were executed by a firing squad on April 29 after serving almost ten years on death row in Bali’s Kerobokan prison.

A eulogy penned by Chan will be read out at his service. A spokesman for the church said the service would be conducted by Salvation Army minister David Soper, according to The Australian.

Chan embraced religion during his time in prison, while Sukumaran achieved a university degree in fine arts.

Sukumaran, 34, will be remembered at a Saturday service at the DaySpring Church in Castle Hill.

His mentor, Australian artist Ben Quilty, will speak at the service, alongside family members and friends.

It is unclear if any politicians will attend either event.
