Walk for Prems: Thousands stroll to support premature babies

Thousands of people across Australia have participated in a special Sunday stroll to raise funds and awareness for premature and sick babies.

Walk for Prems was held in cities and towns across Australia, including Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Sydney and Perth.

The Life’s Little Treasures Foundation, which provides vital services to the families of ill infants, organised the event, which now in its seventh year.

At Melbourne’s Albert Park, parents Lauren Indiveri-Clarke and Paul Clarke told 9NEWS about their son Jensen, who was born at just 30 weeks old.

"It was a complete shock… we weren’t prepared for it at all," Ms Indiveri-Clarke said.

"Babies born that early, their skin is translucent and you can see all their bones and like, his hand fit over his head you could cover his whole body almost with one hand that's how small he was."

Mr Clarke said he was grateful for the support network provided by Life’s Little Treasures while Jensen was in hospital for 50 days.

"It’s a rollercoaster of emotion…you can't compare him to other babies so it's important to have a network of people who've been through the same thing," he said.
