Thousands of George Michael fans have partied into the night in London to remember the late singer.

Tropicana Beach Club- named after Wham’s 1983 hit song-  in Covent Garden was last night transformed into a 24-hour party zone relished by Michael’s greatest fans.

"I just wanted to be part of George Michael, I feel so empty since he's passed away and it's just a way of connecting with him and that's the reason why…because I knew that coming here everybody else is here because they're feeling the same as me,” a partygoer told 9NEWS.

Attendees were asked to donate to singer's favored charities on the way into the free event.

The club’s manager Anthony Knight told the UK’s Evening Standard the public response to the event had been “overwhelming”.

"The response has been incredible. Originally it was just meant to be a small event…within 24 hours we had received over 6000 enquiries with fans from as far as Norway, Ireland, Germany and even Canada flying in especially," Mr Knight said.

Michael was found dead at his home in Oxfordshire on Christmas Day, aged 53.

Authorities have confirmed that while the investigation into George Michael's death is currently being carried out by the coroner, it could become a criminal case if the post mortem reveals the singer died of a drug overdose.
