Third person suing Newman for defamation

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman is now being sued for defamation by three people.

Gold Coast solicitor Chris Hannay has added his solicitor son Daniel Patrick Hannay as a complainant in his law suit against Mr Newman and Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie.

Chris Hannay, who represented accused Gold Coast bikie brawl ringleader Jacques Teamo, took offence in February when Mr Newman allegedly slandered bikie defence lawyers.

Mr Newman said lawyers who defended bikies were part of a criminal gang machine and would do anything to defend their clients.

Mr Bleijie then told the media that Mr Newman's comments referred to Hannay Lawyers specifically.

Daniel Hannay was added to the suit in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Wednesday.

He and his father are now each seeking $1.2 million in damages.

Former Liberal National Party donor and member Clive Palmer is also suing the premier for defamation in a separate action, after Mr Newman accused the mining magnate and federal MP of trying to buy the Queensland government.

Mr Palmer is seeking $1.1 million in damages.
