A thief is on the run after breaking into a Melbourne home and showering, cooking and playing video games inside the property.

Police said the man broke into the Hassett Lane, Cranbourne North, home about 8.10am Wednesday.

He spent five hours inside the home, and used the time to shave, bathe, cook some noodles and use a PlayStation.

It is also believed he masturbated inside the home, police said.

The man then stole several electrical items and fled the scene.

He is described as being aged in his 20s, with a large build and short brown hair.

CCTV footage shows a man wearing a grey Richmond hooded jacket, a black cap and brown UGG boots.
