They've ignored me Leyonhjelm says of govt

David Leyonhjelm says he has been "wonderfully ignored" by the Turnbull government despite being one of nine crossbench senators the coalition needs to pass its legislation.

"I think I've had one phone call from (cabinet minister) Michaelia Cash," he told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday ahead of the new parliament sitting for the first time.

The pair had agreed to have coffee this week to discuss his stance on the double-dissolution trigger bill that aims to restore the building and construction watchdog.

Family First senator Bob Day is also not impressed with the government, having been frustrated by the coalition in the previous parliament.

"We're not going to be taken for granted again," he told The Australian.

Both senators are seen as more likely to support the coalition than not on most issues.
