The one question Emma Alberici regrets not asking in Hizb ut-Tahrir interview

ABC Lateline host Emma Alberici's heated interview with a spokesman for radical Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir — who repeatedly dodged questions about Islamic State's tactics — made headlines yesterday.

But there is one question she regrets not asking the spokesman, Wassim Doureihi.

"In his caliphate, in his ideal Islamic state would I, as a woman, have the opportunity to sit opposite him as an equal and engage in a robust discussion about these issues on the public broadcaster?" Alberici told Fairfax Media.

"I don't think he would have answered."

Alberici added that Mr Doureihi made an offer off air to talk about the issues privately but not on national television.

"He said if you really want answers to those questions you have my number," she said.

The ABC host has won much praise over the interview, which aired on Wednesday night, including from Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who said Alberici "spoke for our country".
