‘I just do stupid things for no reason’: Texts in Kurtley Beale scandal emerge

An exchange between embattled Wallabies star Kurtley Beale and the former staffer alleged to be the subject of “deeply offensive” messages has emerged.

Beale is set to face an independent Code of Conduct tribunal this week after the ARU was made aware of the texts last week.

He allegedly sent images to teammates of obese women with the caption, “Di who wants a go f------ this?”

In the exchange, former business manager Di Patston revealed the hurt caused by Beale’s texts as the flyhalf admitted his remorse, News Corp reports.

“Do you realise the situation you’ve put me in?” Mrs Patston writes.

“I have earned this job and I am proud of being a female at this level.

“I am so embarrassed by this … thanks a lot.”

Mrs Patston reportedly discovered the offensive texts after he accidentally included her on the recipient list.

“I just do stupid things for no reason,” Beale wrote.

“I hate I have done this to you & I am so sorry.”

Mrs Patston accepted his apology and said she would move on.

The incident came to light last week after Beale and Mrs Patston were involved in a heated exchange on a flight from South Africa to Brazil.

A subsequent investigation revealed the messages and prompted a new inquiry, with ARU CEO Bill Pulver labelling Beale’s actions “highly inappropriate and deeply offensive”.

Upon returning to Australia, she resigned citing stress issues, while coach Ewen McKenzie was forced to deny he and Mrs Patston were in an intimate relationship in an extraordinary press conference.

Beale's 47-Test career has been dogged by a succession of off-field problems and last year the 25-year-old was forced to undergo counselling and rehabilitation for his struggles with alcohol.

Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper has backed his teammate, saying he shouldn’t be sacked over the scandal.

"I hope KB stays in rugby union and Australian Rugby Union,” Hooper said yesterday.

“We are backing Kurtley. I enjoy having him around the team and he is quality on the field.”

“Speaking to the boys who have spoken to KB, he is a bit rattled but he's all right and understands the process in play at the moment."
