Officer narrowly avoids death in massive house explosion

A police officer has narrowly escaped death when a house exploded into a massive fireball after an SUV crashed into the primary gas line.

Five people, including two officers, were injured in the Texas explosion that was captured on police dash cam on April 7.

An officer can be seen approaching the home when the massive explosion occurs.

The ruptured gas line caused fumes to build up in the home before erupting in a giant explosion that sent debris flying.  

"It happened so quick, and so fluid, and so fast," Corporal Ryan Tooker said.

"It was more of just react, it was more of life-saving, than it was train on tactics or things of that nature."

Shortly after the explosion, officers could hear screams coming from inside the home.

They broke down the door and rescued a couple and their adult son.

One of the officers was treated at the scene while the other was examined at hospital.

A 61-year-old mother was hospitalised for minor burns.

The driver of the car, 40-year-old Arnulfo Castro, has been arrested for driving without a license.

Hurst city spokeswoman Kara McKinney says he told investigators he lost control of his vehicle after the brakes failed.

He has also been turned over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
