Terror threat getting worse: Abbott

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says the terrorist threat to Australia is worsening.

Mr Abbott on Monday delivered a speech at the Australian Federal Police headquarters in Canberra outlining the government's plan to tackle terrorism.

"There is no greater responsibility on me, on the government, than keeping you safe," he said.

"The terrorist threat is rising at home and abroad and is becoming harder to combat."
