Terminally-ill teen released from hospital

A terminally-ill teenager, who had a remarkable turn of health hours after posting a "farewell" photo from his hospital bed on Facebook, has now been discharged from hospital.

Stephen Sutton, 19, who was being treated for numerous cancerous tumours at a hospital in Birmingham, UK, made headlines after posting a photo giving his 'final thumbs up' from his hospital bed.

Mr Sutton was convinced he would not make it out alive – but he was wrong.

In a matter of days Mr Sutton posted that he "felt fantastic" after "coughing up a tumour".

Now, in what he calls a "quite remarkable" recovery, Mr Sutton has now been discharged from hospital and is back home.

On Facebook, Mr Sutton wrote: "I then also have some more great news... I've been discharged from hospital!!"

The teenager added that readjusting to life outside has "been difficult" because of the "emotional trauma attached to nearly dying that will take a while to get used to".

During his time in hospital, Mr Sutton was visited by British Prime Minister David Cameron, who described him as an "inspiration".

Mr Cameron also tweeted a link to Mr Sutton's 'Just Giving Page', where he is raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, urging people to donate.

So far, Mr Sutton has helped raise more than A$5 million for the charity.

Mr Sutton now says that he is planning some "extra crazy stuff soon", adding that "this extra period of time I now have feels like a gift".

"I now feel even more fortunate to just be here and the experience serves as a potent reminder to go out there and live life as freely and as positively as possible."
