Ten charged after first knife scanning operation at Sydney's busiest train station

NSW Police have charged ten people following the first knife scanning operation in Sydney's CBD.

Officers stopped 386 people from 1 pm to 11 am yesterday at Central Station with twelve people searched.

Five knives and four weapons were seized in the operation, with ten people charged.

In one incident, a 41-year-old man allegedly pulled a Taser from the waistband of his pants upon being searched.

The 30-year-old woman with him was also searched, with police allegedly finding a taser, two slingshots and a knife.

Both were arrested.

The man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with possession of a weapon and two counts of affray.

The woman was taken to Day Street Police Station where she was charged with three counts of possessing a weapon and having a knife in public.

They were both refused bail and will appear in Downing Centre Local Court today.

In another alleged incident a 22-year-old man was searched and police allegedly uncovered a knife and drug paraphernalia in his bag.

Both items were seized and the man was issued a court attendance notice for custody of a knife in a public area.

He will appear in Downing Centre Local Court on January 29.
