Tell us about Afghan war breaches: inquiry

The defence force's independent investigator wants soldiers who have information about breaches of armed conflict rules in Afghanistan since 2005 to come forward.

The inspector-general opened an inquiry in May to determine if there was substance to rumours of Australian misconduct in the field.

NSW Supreme Court Judge Paul Brereton, and Army Reserve major general, is leading the investigation.

"While the inquiry has already spoken to many sources, we would like to hear from anyone else who has any relevant information," he said on Friday.

"Whether you saw something yourself, or heard others talking about it, we would like you to contact us."

The inquiry is being held in private and people giving information will have their identities protected and kept confidential.
