Teens arrested after assault and car vandalism spree

Four teenagers have been arrested after a spate of car break-ins and an assault on a man on the Gold Coast.

The man had head and neck injuries after he was attacked by a group of youths who were trying to break into his car at Surfers Paradise in the early hours of Monday, police said.

It's believed the same group had earlier broken into and damaged at least 20 cars in separate incidents in Bundall and Tugun, causing tens of thousands of dollars of damage.

Video obtained by 9NEWS shows a grey Skoda fly through a red light and smash into a 4WD in the middle of peak hour.

The driver tries and fails to take off again, before all of the occupants of the car jump out and take off on foot through a car yard.

Queensland police arrested a 15-year-old boy at Varsity Lakes on Monday night, while officers in New South Wales arrested two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old at Tweed City shopping centre in Tweed Heads South on Monday afternoon.
