Eight teens arrested over alleged violent carjacking on the Gold Coast

Eight teens have been arrested over an alleged violent carjacking that left a Gold Coast mother injured on the street early yesterday morning.

Yoko Abe, 50, was driving through intersection in Ashmore, when another car hit the back of hers at about 4am yesterday.

The second car pursued the woman until Ainsley Avenue, when it stopped and the occupants allegedly got out and dragged her out of her car.

The group allegedly took off in the car, leaving their original one - which police claim was also reportedly stolen earlier that night - behind.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

This morning, police said the woman's car was seen by helictoper in Logan, Brisbane, about 70km from the alleged carjacking, at 3.50pm yesterday.

Police said they tracked the car as it drove towards Richlands, where it stopped outside a train station at about 4.30pm and five teenagers got out.

They were arrested shortly after.

At about 4.40pm, police said, the car stopped again at an Inala address and two girls got out. They also were arrested soon after.

Just after 5pm, a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed along Johnson Road in Hilcrest.

The car continued driving before being dumped on Lawson Street at Woodridge.

The driver allegedly fled on foot, and was arrested from a nearby address shortly after.

In all, eight youths aged 13 to 17 have been taken into custody..

No charges have yet been laid.
