Teenager left seriously injured after alleged Melbourne tram assault

A 15-year-old boy has been left with serious head injuries after police say he was seriously assaulted on a tram in South Melbourne last month.

The teenager was with his girlfriend while travelling to Southern Cross Railway Station at around 9.15pm on Saturday, April 23, according to police.

The tram reached the stop near Ferrars Street in South Melbourne where two men who were unknown to the couple boarded the tram and allegedly began harassing the teen's girlfriend.

He then became involved in a verbal altercation with the men who allegedly stomped on his head numerous times.

The tram stopped and the men, who are believed to be in their 40s, fled the scene.

The boy was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Police have released an image of two men they say can assist with their enquiries into the alleged attack.
