Teen left with 12 stitches after falling on VB stubby at Australian Day party

A Victorian teenager who sliced her neck open after falling onto a VB stubby has told of the terrifying moment she thought she was going to die.

Kaitlyn was dancing on the kitchen table at her home in Central Victoria during an Australia Day party on Friday.

Attempting to jump onto a mate's back, she fell and landed on the beer bottle which then pierced her neck.

Fighting back tears, the teen told 9NEWS she “thought she was going die, (it was) pretty scary”.

"The hole in my neck was like a big hole… I just remember my throat opening up,” she recalled.

Bleeding heavily, the 19-year-old’s friends attempted first aid, before she was rushed to Maryborough Hospital and given urgent treatment.

She was eventually taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she underwent surgery.

Doctors removed glass from her throat, and she was given 12 stitches.

"Everyone kept telling me how lucky I was because it was just a few millimetres away from getting the main artery, and me just dying on the spot,” she said.

Kaitlyn's mother said, "alcohol is dangerous...she's gotta live with this now. But it could have been somebody else she could have hurt."

Kaitlyn said she'll be laying off the booze for a while as she recovers from her ordeal.
