Teen arrested after wild limousine chase across Gold Coast suburbs

A limousine has been destroyed and a childcare centre placed into lockdown during a dramatic police chase on the Gold Coast.

It is alleged the car had been stolen from the driveway of its chauffeur in Elanora, leading police on a wild game of cat and mouse across Gold Coast suburbs.

Police received a call at around 8.30am this morning after witnesses spotted a Holden Statesman limousine being driven erratically on the Pacific Highway at Mudgeeraba.

The car managed to evade attempts to stop it, with police activating the PolAir helicopter to help officers on the ground with the location and direction of the limousine.

Police deployed a stinger spike strip across Mudgeeraba Road, knocking out three of the vehicle's tyres and forcing the driver to come to a stop and flee.

He was busted by the police helicopter's thermal imaging equipment, leading police to locate the suspect under bushes where they could not see him with the naked eye.

"They saw a heat signature in the bushes and what our offender had done is he had burrowed himself into a hedge where he just couldn't be seen by the human eye yet the helicopter was able to pick him up with their equipment," Senior Sergeant Bradyn Murphy from Queensland police said.

Police arrested a 17-year-old Loganlea man, who was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop motor vehicle and driving a motor vehicle without a license.

The teen is due to appear in Southport Magistrate Court tomorrow.
