Victorian teacher who propositioned 10-year-old student for sex sentenced to 200 hours community service

A Victorian teacher who propositioned her 10-year-old male student for sex has been ordered to serve 200 hours community service.

The judge said 47-year-old Diane Brimble's behaviour was as bizarre as any he'd seen.

A jury found Brimble guilty of an indecent act, and acquitted her of five other more serious charges.

The mother of eight asked the boy – a neighbour - to sleep with her and have sex.

He told her he was not old enough, to which she said, “you are when you're at my house."

Brimble also had the boy's name tattooed on her chest and wrote him love letters.

There was no diagnosis of a psycho-sexual disorder.

"I am at a complete loss to understand why you engaged in such an utterly inappropriate conduct which must dismay every parent," the judge said.

The court heard Brimble has no criminal record and had been of good character.

The judge found she was unlikely to reoffend and the prosecution did not suggest a jail term.

She is still the carer for four of her eight children.

She was today sentenced to a two-year community correction order, 200 hours community work, mental health assessment and treatment, placed on the sex offenders register for eight years, and asked to provide a forensic swab.

She also needs a new set of car tyres; hers were slashed during the verdict.
