Taxi strikes pedestrian and smashes into Sydney gallery

A woman has been injured today after being hit by a taxi as she walked along a footpath.

The driver smashed into a gallery in Paddington, in Sydney's eastern suburbs, after a botched U-turn.

The taxi was hit by another car while performing the manoeuvre at about 8am today, forcing it to mount the kerb.

The woman sustained rib and arm injuries and was treated at the scene. 

She has since been taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where she is in a stable condition.

The driver of the taxi was trapped in the wreckage of the car and had to be freed by emergency services.

He was not injured in the crash but has been taken to St Vincent's Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Paramedics treated three people at the scene, a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman told AAP.
