A NEW-LOOK GST COULD FOLLOW ONE OF THESE MODELS:

* GST rises to 15 per cent from 10 per cent, raising $32.5 billion annually

* GST rises to 12.5 per cent, base expanded to include all food and non-alcoholic drinks, raising $25 billion

* GST rises to 15 per cent, base expanded to include food and non-alcoholic drinks, water and sewerage, raising $45 billion

* Existing 10 per cent GST base expanded to include health services and education services, raising $4 billion

AND THERE'S OTHER OPTIONS:

* Medicare levy rises to 4 per cent from 2 per cent in one hit, raising $15 billion

* Medicare levy rises to 4 per cent over eight years

* A GST-equivalent financial sector tax, raising $4 billion
