Tax kidnap claims 'bizarre'

It's bizarre to claim that disclosing the tax information of private companies could lead to wealthy individuals being kidnapped, an inquiry has heard.

Mark Zirnsak, Uniting Church Victorian and Tasmanian synod justice and international mission director, said some private companies which made the kidnapping assertion may simply have a strong desire for privacy.

"It's preposterous that they can assert the risk of kidnapping from my point of view," Mr Zirnsak told a Senate inquiry into corporate tax avoidance.
