Damaging winds continue in Tasmania

More buildings across Tasmania are at risk of damage or collapse while strong winds continue to batter the state.

That's the warning from senior emergency service personnel the day after a pedestrian was injured by a falling brick facade in central Hobart.

Witnesses heard the man screaming immediately after being struck by the rubble in the city's central Bathurst Street.

He was rushed to hospital where he underwent leg surgery and remains in a stable condition.

About 12 hours later a neighbouring building in the same street suffered damage, with a string of 10th floor windows blown in as wind gusts across the CBD reached up to 113km/h.

On Thursday morning the road remained closed with further forecast rough weather.

"All buildings may be liable to some damage in winds like we saw last evening," acting SES director Nick Wilson told reporters.

"Those winds are record winds so where possible people should limit their exposure to those winds."

The SES responded to more than 30 calls for assistance across southern Tasmania overnight, with numerous reports of fallen trees and damaged roofs.

Projectiles including outdoor furniture, wheelie bins and trampolines also posed a risk, Mr Wilson added.

"I'm aware of at least one instance ... where a trampoline has landed on the neighbour's roof," he said.

"They're quite aerodynamic when the wind gets them."

Strong winds are expected to continue across Tasmania into Thursday evening.
